Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (RA)
Character of Abu Bakr (RA)
Muhammad (SAW) said Abu Bakr (RA) was not only the first man to accept Islam but he was the only one to accept Islam without any hesitation or doubt. The next day, after 24 hours, Abu Bakr (RA) had already started giving da’wah and serving the deen of Allah (SWT). He brought not just a few and not just the poor but mountains of some of the best people from amongst the people of the Quraysh. This was such an amazing and great companion, that another great companion, Umar (RA) praised him very highly. Whenever Abu Bakr (RA) was mentioned or if Umar (RA) remembered one of Abu Bakr’s (RA) virtues, actions, or sacrifice he used to say “Oh Abu Bakr (RA), you have made it very very hard for any of those that come after you.” He used to say this because Abu Bakr (RA) surpassed everyone in generosity, modesty, deeds, charity, salah, Quran recitation, and everything else that made a believer more pious. Another great companion, Ali (RA), used to say, “If you thought of doing something good, then Abu Bakr (RA) has already done it.”
Story 1: Path of Truth
One day Abu Bakr (RA) was sitting with Muhammad (SAW) and the Mushrikeens came and started cursing Abu Bakr, cursing his wife, his sister, his mother, and using all kinds of foul and obscene language. However, Abu Bakr (RA) was sitting quietly and patiently so they realized their efforts to move him was not doing anything so they then started cursing the prophet (SAW) and his family. At this point Abu Bakr (RA) gets up, enraged and immediately the prophet (SAW) gets up and walks away. He did not want to waste his time dealing with the Mushrikeens so he goes after his beloved prophet (SAW) to find out why he left. He ran after Muhammad (SAW) and asked him why he walked away. The prophet (SAW) said, as long as you were quietly sitting there the angels were standing around us saying Abu Bakr (RA) is on the truth. As soon as you got up the angels flew away and I do not sit where the angels are not in my company. |Heart to Heart: Abu Bakr (RA) got up because he thought it was the right thing to do but this shows us we must be patient in difficult situations. Anger, hatred, violence are not traits we as Muslim want to have. These traits do not solve any problem but in turn cause more issues.|
